Emory Women's Cross Country Posts Runner-Up Finish at JSU Foothills Invitational

The Emory University women's cross country program, ranked
34th nationally in Division III, produced yet another
solid effort on Saturday as it finished second out of 12 teams at
the 5th Annual Jacksonville State University Foothills
Invitational in Oxford, Alabama.
The Eagles finished the race with 45 points, second only to host
Jacksonville State University, who claimed the top spot with 38
points. West Alabama took home third place (88 pts.) while
the University of Montevallo (107 pts.) and Huntingdon College
(158) rounded out the top five.
For the third straight competition, senior Natalie Fenn paced the
Emory pack with a 5k time of 19:41.00, good for seventh place in
the 98-runner field. Fenn’s effort highlighted a strong
team performance that saw the Eagles nail down four of the top 10
and eight of the top 14 finishes. Sophomore Calley Edwards
crossed the finish line in the No. 8 spot at 19:41.36 while
classmate Melanie Frank was right behind Edwards with a showing of
19:41.75, good for ninth place. Rounding out the team’s
scorers were juniors Sara Gelb (19:42.19, 10th place)
and Tess Gallegos (19:42.58, 11th place).
Emory will split its squad next week with some participating in the
Royal Cross Country Challenge on Friday (Oct. 15) in Charlotte, NC,
and others venturing to the 6k UW-Oshkosh Brooks Invitational on
Saturday.
