Phil Engel joined the Emory University Athletic Department as the Assistant Sports Information Director / Multimedia Coordinator in August of 2015.
He is the primary media contact for men's/women's swimming & diving, women's tennis, baseball, men's/women's soccer and men's/women's track & field.
Engel comes to Emory after spending the 2014-15 year with Union College in Schenectady, N.Y. At Union, Engel directly handled the media relations efforts for the Division I women’s ice hockey program and men’s soccer, volleyball, baseball, men’s/women’s cross country, men’s/women’s swimming & diving and men’s/women’s track & field teams at the Division III level.
A native of Cranford, N.J., Phil completed his Bachelors of Science degree in Sport Management in 2014 at DeSales University in Center Valley, Pa. During his time at DeSales, Engel spent all four years as a student assistant in the school’s sports information department. As a senior, he also interned in the Athletic Communications and Promotions office at Lafayette College in Easton, Pa., helping with the college’s media coverage of all 23 Division I athletic programs.
In addition, Phil served as the sports information contact for the Quakertown Blazers of the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League from 2012-2014 and was the media relations contact for the 2014 ACBL All-Star Game.
Engel has served on the Atlanta Braves' Triple A affilate, the Gwinnett Stripers, press box staff for the past two seasons as well, acting as an official scorer and field time cordinator.
