Emory Baseball Withholds Late WashU Rally; Defeat Bears 8-6

The Emory University Baseball team withheld a late rally by the Washington University Bears to pick up the 8-6 victory in game two of the series Saturday afternoon at Chappell Park in Atlanta.

Senior Bubby Terp drove in a team-high three runs with junior Michael Wilson scoring a pair to power the Emory offense. Freshman Jack Moore pitched into the eighth inning, allowing four runs in 7.1 innings of work to record his second win of the season. Classmate Jared Gaer picked up his first save of his career, giving up one run in 1.1 while striking out one.

Emory struck first in the contest, scoring four times in the opening frame with the big coming from Wilson who drove in two with a single to the right centerfield gap. The Eagles added a run in the second as Terp plated junior Jackson Grayson with a ground out to short.

Leading 6-1 entering the eighth inning, the Bears made a late push with four runs as Johnny LaMantia uncorked a grand slam over the right field fence off the arm of junior Brian Taggett to cut the Emory lead to 6-5. The Eagles answered with two in the bottom of the inning with a two-run double from Terp to put the game away.

Emory and WashU close out their four-game series Sunday morning with a doubleheader beginning at 10:00 AM at Chappell Park.
