Emory Men's Swimming Trio Headed to Phillips 66 National Championships

Emory University swimmers Andrew Wilson, Oliver Smith and Thomas Gordon will be in action this week in the Phillips 66 National Championships at The Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The meet will serve as the trials for the World Championships, which will be held July 23-30 in Budapest, Hungary. The United States' World Championships roster will consist of 26 men and 26 women. Swimmers at the Phillips 66 Nationals also can qualify for the World University Games, slated for August 20-26 in Chinese Taipei, Taiwan. The U.S. will send 20 men and 20 women to the World University Games.

The Phillips 66 Nationals will take place Tuesday, June 27 through Saturday, July 1, with prelims at 9 am and finals at 6 pm EST. All prelims and finals will be streamed live on USASwimming.org. Finals also can be seen Tuesday and Wednesday on NBCSN at 7 p.m. (same day delay); Thursday, Friday and Saturday live on Universal HD at 6 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. on NBC (taped). Full TV and live stream schedule can be found here.

Wilson is set to compete in four events during the week: 200 Breaststroke on Wednesday, 50 Breaststroke on Thursday, 100 Breaststroke on Friday and the 200 IM on Saturday. Wilson enters with the third fastest seed time in the 50 Breast and 100 Breast (59.51), fourth fastest in the 200 Breast (2:09.35), and is 44th in the 200 IM (1:44.18). At the 2015 Phillips 66 Championships, Wilson captured a pair of top-three finishes in the 100 and 200 Breaststrokes including a title in the 100.

Smith will race in the 50 Freestyle on Saturday and enters with the 28th fastest seed time out of 63 competitors. This season, Smith defended his 50 Freestyle crown at the NCAA DIII Championships and swam the anchor leg on four championship winning relay teams.

Gordon will swim in both the 1,500 Freestyle on Tuesday and the 800 Freestyle on Saturday. Gordon ranks 50th in the 800 Freestyle and is 52nd in the 1,500 Free. This past March at the Division III Championships, Gordon was an All-American in four events including three top-three finishes in the 200 Free (2nd), 500 Free (3rd) and 1,650 Free (3rd).
