Eagles Post One Event Win, 12 NCAA B Cuts on Day Two of Miami Invitational

The Emory University Men's Swimming and Diving program continued action at the Miami Invitational on Friday, recording another event win to go along with 12 NCAA B Cut times.

At the conclusion of two days of events, the Eagles still find themselves in fourth place heading into the final day with 476 points. Denison University leads all teams with 928 points followed by Miami with 609 and Washington University in St. Louis with 605. The final day of action features the 1,650 Freestyle, 200 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle, 200 Breaststroke, 200 Butterfly and 400 Freestyle Relay. Prelims begin at 9:00 AM with the finals to follow at 4:00 PM.

Sophomore Sage Ono registered the lone event title on the evening for the Eagles as he claimed the 100 Backstroke crown. Ono posted the top times in both the morning and evening sessions with his faster mark coming in prelims at 48.23.

Ono added a NCAA B Cut as a member of the 200 Medley Relay along with seniors John Copses, Oliver Smith and junior Trey Kolleck. The group placed second in the event, touching at 1:29.00. Smith had another NCAA B Cut individually as he threw down the second fastest times during the 100 Butterfly preliminaries, finishing at 48.86.

Junior Matt Rogers tallied three NCAA qualifying marks on Friday, two individual and one relay, to lead the Emory men. During the morning session, Rogers posted a 1:40.08 in the 200 Freestyle and was sixth in the 100 Backstroke finals at 49.94. Rogers, along with juniors Thomas Gordon, Alex Kohlman and sophomore Connor McCourt, closed out the second day of swimming with a second place effort in the 800 Freestyle Relay in a time of 6:40.22.

Adding NCAA B Cuts on Friday for the Eagles were freshman Sven Mesihovic (3:55.59, prelims), sophomore Chandler Vandiford (10th, 4:01.25) and freshman Connor Duggan (11th, 4:01.86) in the 400 IM, Gordon (3rd, 1:39.08) and Kohlman (10th, 49.94) in the 200 Freestyle and senior Cooper Tollen in the 100 Breaststroke (55.60, prelims).
