Emory Men's Tennis Posts 2-1 Mark Over Three-Match Stretch

The Emory men's tennis team opened the spring portion of its schedule by registering two wins in three outings.  Playing at the Woodruff PE Center Indoor Courts on the Emory campus, the Eagles opened with an 8-1 triumph over Point University on Friday. The following day, Emory opened with a 9-0 whitewash of Union College (KY) before coming out on the short end of a 5-4 decision to NAIA powerhouse Georgia Gwinnett College.

Emory closed out the weekend with an effort of 8-1 in doubles, highlighted by the No. 1 senior tandem of Jonathan Jemison and Adrien Bouchet winning all three of their encounters, including an 8-6 verdict over Georgia Gwinnett's Valentino Caratini and Ayed Zatar.  At second doubles, senior James Spaulding and sophomore Will Wanner came through with a trifecta of success that included an impressive 8-4 outcome over GGC's Federico Herrera Duran and Rafel Coutinho.

In singles, freshman Sahil Raina was successful in all three of his endeavors, two at the No. 6 post and one at No. 3. Raina defeated Point University's Clayton Godfrey, 6-0, 6-1, at six before moving up to third singles vs. Union where he topped Lois Castellon, 6-4, 6-2.  Raina recorded one of the Eagles' two singles win vs. Georgia Gwinnett with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Mika Kosonen.  Jemison accounted for the other singles' win against the Grizzlies, dispatching Ayad Zatar at the No. 1 position by a score of 6-2, 6-2.

Emory now turns its attention to next weekend's (Feb. 22-24) ITA National Indoor Championships in Cleveland.  The Eagles' quarterfinal-round opponent will be Whitman, with that match taking place on Friday at 11:30 am.
