Sophomore Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico advanced to the semifinals of the singles draw and later reached the semis in doubles with freshman Jessica Fatemi on the opening day of the 2018 ITA Cup. This year's tournament is being held at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, GA.
In singles, top-seeded Gonzalez-Rico coasted to a first round win over Skidmore's Risa Fukushige 6-1, 6-1 and advances to face the no. 4 seed, Venia Yeung of Wesleyan University. The semifinal match is set to take place Friday morning.
In doubles, Gonzalez-Rico and Fatemi earned a straight set win in their opening round match, knocking out Whitman's Andrea Gu and Mary Hill 6-0, 7-6 (1). Next up for the Emory pairing will be the no. 2 seed out of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Catherine Allen and Caroline Cox, Friday afternoon.
