Senior libero Elyse Thompson contributed solid defense over the weekend at the Emory Invitational, helping the No. 3-ranked Eagles volleyball team to a 4-0 record.
The 5-foot-7 Thompson landed a-tournament honors after playing in 12 of the squad's 15 sets and averaging a team-high 4.75 digs per game, with her efforts helping limit the opposition to just a .121 hitting percentage. In addition, she paced the club with seven service aces.
In the Invitational opener, a 3-1 verdict over Saint Mary's, she compiled 12 digs and kept the Belles' defense off balance with five aces. She followed that outing by compiling a match-best 24 digs along with six assists in a 3-1 triumph against No. 7 UW-Whitewater. In the finale of the weekend, a dramatic 3-2 come-from-behind triumph against No. 24 Susquehanna, Thompson totaled a match-high 21 digs, her eighth performance of the year with 20 or more.
So far this year, Elyse is No. 5 among UAA players in digs average (4.59 dps).
